Ingredients
Sriracha: This is a type of hot sauce or chili sauce. As far as hot sauce goes, it's not super spicy, but it can be quite hot to people that aren't accustomed to spicy food. Replace with ketchup, or combine the two to make a mild version of these chicken wings.
Seasoning: Salt, pepper and garlic powder add some flavor to the wings.
Honey: Honey makes the wings sweet and sticky.
Chicken wings: Use plain chicken wings. If you use frozen chicken, you will have to defrost it first.
Instructions
You can find full instructions + ingredient measurements in the recipe card at the bottom of this page
One: Cover with chicken wings with the honey, seasoning, and half of the sriracha.
Two: Place on a roasting rack, fitted with a drip tray underneath. This will ensure that the chicken wings are cooked more evenly, and prevent them from getting soggy.
Three: Bake at 425 F / 220 C / 200 C fan oven for about 20 minutes.
Four: Use a pastry brush to add the remaining sriracha to the wings, and bake for a further 15-20 minutes, or until the wings are cooked.
Grilled wings: Coat the wings with the seasoning and marinade as described above. Place on a hot grill, and cook on both sides until they are lightly charred and cooked through. This typically takes about 20 minutes, depending on the temperature of the grill.
Top tips
- If you want to make crispy chicken wings, I recommend adding some baking powder to the seasoning, and broiling them after baking.
- You can cook chicken wings whole, or cut into wingettes and drumettes. Check out my post on How to Cut Chicken Wings to learn how.
- Adjust the seasoning to suit your preference.
Serving suggestions
Chicken wings are best served as a starter or entree, paired with a delicious dipping sauce and optionally some side dishes. Here are some of my favorite recipes to make them with:
- Dipping sauces: Honey BBQ Sauce, Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing, Healthy Ranch Dip, Cilantro Lime Aioli, Pesto Aioli, Sriracha Aioli
- Side dishes: Air Fryer Potato Wedges, Lemon Kale Salad, Asparagus Pasta Salad, Air Fryer Rutabaga Fries,
Variations
Really spicy: Add chili powder in addition to the sriracha, or serve with a spicy dipping sauce.
Mild & kid friendly: Replace some or all of the sriracha with ketchup or BBQ sauce for a mild version of the dish.
Drumsticks: Use chicken drumsticks instead of wings. You will have to increase the cooking time with about 15 minutes, as drumsticks are larger and take longer to cook.
Leftovers
Store leftover honey sriracha wings in a sealed container in a refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a microwave, oven or air fryer, and serve them warm.
You can also shred the meat off the bones, and add it to wraps, salads or rice bowls. This is a great way to repurpose leftover chicken wings if you don't feel like eating the same thing multiple times in a row.
Frequently asked questions
Make the wings extra crispy by patting the raw wings dry before you add seasoning. Add baking powder to the seasoning mix, and bake the chicken wings on a high temperature.
If you don't have access to sriracha, you can use any chili sauce or chili ketchup, or sambal oelek which is a chili paste.
Absolutely! Whole chicken wings have the drumette and wingette attached to each other. Bake them following the same exact instructions.
