I always drink a lot of fruity beverages in the summer (like my favorite blueberry apple smoothie), and this is one of my absolute favorites. Agua fresca means "fresh water" or "cool water", and is typically made by blending water with fruits, berries or flowers. Super refreshing AND healthy!
This non-alcoholic beverage is excellent for the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo, but it's also a great chilled drink to hydrate with, or to serve for breakfast, brunch or at a picnic or BBQ garden party.
Although mango agua fresca is typically a non-alcoholic drink, you can also make a grown up version by adding some tequila or white rum.
🥘 Ingredients for mango agua fresca
All you need to make this simple mango agua fresca is fresh or frozen mango, water and lime juice.
You will also need a blender to puree the ingredients to a smooth drink.
🥭 Choosing a ripe mango
This drink is definitely best when made with ripe mangoes. When they are ripe, mangoes taste really sweet and fruity, and produce more juice.
Ripe mangoes are yellow or red, not green. They should also feel slightly soft when you touch them. Avoid using green mangoes that feel really hard or solid.
🔪 How to make mango agua fresca
This drink is really easy to make! Simply peel and roughly dice the mango, then add it to a blender along with water and lime juice.
Blend the ingredients until smooth. You can add more lime juice if you prefer, and increase the amount of water if you want to make a thinner agua fresca.
Keep in mind that one mango is enough for 1-2 drinks depending on the size of the glasses.
Serve the drinks over ice cubes, or store it in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve them.
🥗 Serving suggestions
Serve agua fresca in glasses with ice cubes and topped with lime wedges or fresh mint. These drinks are fantastic served alone, but they can also be enjoyed with a meal.
🍲 Leftovers
You can keep leftover mango agua fresca in a jug in a refrigerator for up to a day. Try to keep it chilled as much as possible, as the drink is far better when served cold and not at room temperature.
