If you love a good creamy, cheese dip with a hint of spice - this one is for you! Buffalo chicken dip is an American classic, and this version is made a little healthier by using Greek yogurt as a creamy base.

    Ingredients

For this recipe, you will need cooked chicken. You can buy precooked chicken, rotisserie chicken, or make a batch of poached chicken breasts. You will also need Greek yogurt, cream cheese and cheddar.

Additionally, you will need hot sauce or buffalo sauce. I like to use Frank's RedHot Original for this recipe. This sauce gives the dip a nice kick, without being overpowering or too spicy.

    Instructions

    First, preheat the oven to 390 °F / 200 °C.

Shred the cooked chicken into small pieces. It's important to shred the chicken thoroughly, as any large pieces will make the dip too chunky!

Combine the shredded chicken with Greek yogurt, cream cheese, Frank's RedHot sauce, and cheddar. If you want, you can leave out part of the cheddar to sprinkle on top of the dip, or you can mix it all together.

Place the dip in an oven proof baking dish. A 8x8 or 9x9 inch pan is perfect, but any size will work as long as the dip can fit!

Bake the dip in the oven for about 25 minutes, or until it's completely hot throughout and the cheese has melted.

Serve the healthy buffalo chicken dip while it's hot with your favorite sides.

Frank's RedHot is the most popular brand of buffalo sauce. I like to use their RedHot Originial for this recipe, although you can use any hot sauce or buffalo sauce. Keep in mind that using a different brand might result in a milder or spicier dip, and you might want to adjust the amount to suit your preferences.

    Top tips

Here are my best tips to succeed with this recipe:

    • Make sure to pull or dice the chicken into very small pieces. Any larger chunks will make dipping awkward.
    • The dip is best served warm straight from the oven. If you allow it to cool down, the dip will firm up and be slightly more difficult to actually dip into. If this happens, you can use it as a spread!

    Serving suggestions

What's a dip without dippable sides? I love to serve this dip with a variety of items, so that everyone can have their favorite.

Bread: Serve it with crostini, sliced baguettes or sliced toast.

Vegetables: This dip is excellent served with celery, carrots, cucumbers or cauliflower florets.

Savory snacks: Try it with crackers, pretzels or tortilla chips.

    Variations

Although buffalo chicken dip is great as is, you can also make it with variations if you want. Here are my favorite alternative ways to make it:

With some veggies: I actually love to mix in pureed vegetables with the sauce. Puree some cooked cauliflower or sweet potatoes, and mix it in before you bake the dish. A great way to add hidden veg, without anyone even knowing!

Vegetarian: You can replace the chicken with buffalo marinated pulled jackfruit or mashed chickpeas for a veggie version of the dip.

Dairy free: You can make a dairy free buffalo chicken dip by using dairy free yogurt, cream cheese and cheese. There are plenty of excellent dairy free or vegan options in the supermarkets!

    Leftovers

Leftover buffalo chicken dip can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 2 days. I recommend reheating it in an oven at 390 °F / 200 °C for about 15 minutes, so that the cheese can melt again.

Hi Paige! This recipe makes 8 servings, so one serving would be an eight of the dish, or about 2/3 cup.
