Stir fried or sauteed green beans is such a quick and tasty side dish, and a great way to include more veggies in your diet. Garlic green beans are a common entry on Chinese takeaway menus, but this homemade version is healthier, cheaper and faster to make than ordering.
🥘 Ingredients
For this recipe you will need fresh green beans, garlic, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chili flakes.
I would not recommend using frozen green beans as they tend to contain too much water. You can omit or replace the condiments as needed to fit your dietary requirements, and omit the chili flakes if you don't want any heat.
🔪 Instructions
Clean the green beans and trim off the edges. Slice the garlic thinly.
Combine the oyster sauce, 2 tablespoon sesame oil, some chili flakes and soy sauce in a small bowl and set aside. Then, heat up 2 tablespoon sesame oil in a wok or a large skillet on high temperature.
When the oil is really hot, it's time to add the garlic and green beans. Fry them while stirring, and make sure to coat them in the hot oil.
When the green beans start to look slightly softer and wrinkly, it's time to add the sauce we made earlier. Pour it into the wok, and keep stirring the beans around for another minute.
Move the green beans to a serving bowl. Garnish with more chili flakes if you want, then serve.
💭 Top tips
- The stir frying process goes fast, and requires constant stirring while frying. You don't want to leave the green beans to cook in your wok or skillet for too long.
- Feel free to experiement with additional seasoning!
