Chinese Garlic Green Beans

These Chinese garlic green beans are stir fried to perfection, and make for a quick and easy side dish to serve with Asian food.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb green beans (500 g)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 teaspoon oyster sauce
  • 4 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 teaspoon soy sauce
  • chili flakes

Instructions

  • Clean the green beans and trim off the edges. Slice the garlic thinly.
  • Combine the oyster sauce, 2 tablespoon sesame oil, some chili flakes and soy sauce in a small bowl and set aside. Then, heat up 2 tablespoon sesame oil in a wok or a large skillet on high temperature.
  • When the oil is really hot, it's time to add the garlic and green beans. Fry them while stirring, and make sure to coat them in the hot oil.
  • When the green beans start to look slightly softer and wrinkly, it's time to add the sauce we made earlier. Pour it into the wok, and keep stirring the beans around for another minute.
  • Move the green beans to a serving bowl. Garnish with more chili flakes if you want, then serve.

Notes

Are garlic green beans vegan? – Oyster sauce is usually not vegan. Make sure to find a vegan friendly oyster sauce alternative, or omit the oyster sauce for a vegan version of the dish.

Top tips

  • he stir frying process goes fast, and requires constant stirring while frying. You don’t want to leave the green beans to cook in your wok or skillet for too long.
  • Feel free to experiement with additional seasoning!

Leftovers

Store leftover Chinese garlic green beans in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Serve the leftovers cold, or reheat them in the microwave.
