I have always preferred roasted broccoli over the boiled or steamed version. Roasted broccoli has a much better texture and flavor, with a lovely crunch. This air fryer version is really easy to make and tastes great.
This method is also great if you're preparing a big meal with multiple side dishes, such as holiday meals. If your oven and stove top are crowded with pots and pans, you can at least relieve some of that stress by roasting broccoli in the air fryer.
Ingredients
For this recipe you will need broccoli, olive oil, salt and pepper. Optionally, you can also use red chili flakes for a kick of spice.
You will also need an air fryer. My air fryer is similar to this one, which has a very convenient frying basket.
Instructions
Pre heat your air fryer to 355 °F / 180 °C. Depending on the make and model of your air fryer, it usually takes 3-5 minutes to heat up.
Meanwhile, cut the broccoli into similar sized florets. Place them in a bowl, and add the oil, salt, pepper and chili flakes. Stir to coat the broccoli pieces evenly.
Add the broccoli to the stir fryer in a single layer, without much overlap and without overflowing the basket. Air fry for 8-10 minutes. Shake the basket once or twice while it cooks to ensure that the vegetables cook evenly.
Pierce one of the broccoli florets with a fork. If the fork goes through with a little resistance, the broccoli is ready to serve.
Top tips
Here are all my best tips to succeed with this recipe:
- I highly recommend using fresh broccoli for this recipe. Frozen broccoli florets have to be roasted at a higher temperature for a longer amount of time, and typically have a more steamed texture than roasted.
- You can use any other seasoning you like, such as lemon juice or herbs.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the basket, and remember to shake it to ensure that the broccoli roasts evenly.
Serving suggestions
Air fryer broccoli is a fantastic side dish that you can serve with a variety of meals.
Try it as a side with your roast dinner, like air fryer whole chicken or gammon in coke.
I also like to serve it with pasta or rice based dishes, any meat based main course or even in salads. Roasted vegetables in general are really versatile, and a great way to add more veggies to any meal.
Leftovers
Leftover roasted broccoli can be stored in an airtight container in a refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep in mind that the broccoli might lose some of it crunch while storing, but it will still taste great!
