I love making my own seasoning blends. I often find that they are much cheaper compared to buying seasoning mixes. Store bought seasoning packets also often contain large amounts of salt and sugar. By making my own, I can control exactly what goes into it.
Cumin is a common ingredient in fajita seasoning, but it's not everyone's favorite spice. This version makes an excellent, tasty fajitas completely without any cumin at all!
🥘 Ingredients
To make this homemade fajita seasoning, you will need cornstarch, chili powder, oregano, smoked paprika, onion powder and garlic powder.
You can also add salt if you wish. I like to keep my seasoning blends free from salt, and rather add salt directly to the dishes I cook if needed.
The cornstarch is optional, as it does not add any flavor. However, it does help with the texture when you add the seasoning to your dishes, especially fajita chicken. You can omit the cornstarch if you simply want to make a spice mix.
🔪 Instructions
Combine all the ingredients on a plate or in a bowl. Use it in a dish, or add it to an airtight container for storage.
The amount suggested will be enough for 10-12 servings of fajitas, but you can easily multiply the recipe if you want to make a bigger batch.

Please help: This recipe says it is made without cumin yet it calls for chili powder. Which brand of chili powder does not contain chili powder? Many list it as a main ingredient while others hide it under “spices” without specifically listing it.

Hi! Thank you for pointing that out, I've added a note to the recipe. I can buy pure chili powder in any grocery store here in the UK, but the situation might be different depending on where you live. You might find that any powder that labels the type of chili used, like chipotle powder, ancho powder, jalapeno powder, etc is more likely to only contain chili. Simply organic, Kiva, Dwaraka, McCormick, Waitrose Cooks' Ingredients, Bart, Rajah, East End, JustIngredients, and TRS all have pure chili powders in some form.
