Grilled pineapple slices with a honey glaze is summer on a plate to me. I love to cook them on the grill when we're having a BBQ dinner. First, I serve them as a side, then also with the dessert.
I was so happy when I discovered that I can make perfect roasted pineapple in my air fryer as well. It's so quick, easy and convenient, and I'm now enjoying air fried pineapple with my meals on a regular basis.
🥘 Ingredients
All you need to make air fryer pineapple is fresh pineapple, and honey - or an alternative such as date syrup or agave syrup.
You can also try to make this using canned pineapple rings, but keep in mind that these tend to have a different texture and flavor.
You will also naturally need an air fryer.
🔪 Instructions
Slice the pineapple. Remove the outer skin off the pineapple, along with the hard centre. Spray the inside of an air fryer with olive oil spray.
Place the pineapple slices or pieces in the air fryer in one single layer. Avoid stacking them on top of each other. If you're cooking a large amount of pineapple, you might have to air fry them in several batches.
Drizzle or brush a thin layer of honey over the top of the pineapple slices. Air fry the slices on 355°F or 180°C for 8-15 minute. Check regularly, as the exact cooking time will vary. The pineapple is done when the edges are slightly charred.
If you're cooking in multiple batches, the next batches will cook a lot quicker as the air fryer is already preheated. Keep an eye on the fruit to avoid overcooking it.
💭 Top tips
Here are my best tips for succeeding with this honey glazed pineapple recipe:
- Don't omit the honey! The sugars in the syrup will create a glaze over the pineapple, and prevent the slices from drying out.
- The exact frying time will vary depending on how your air fryer works and the thickness of your pineapple slices. Check on them regularly, and remove the fruit from the air fryer when there's a slight char on the edges.
- If you don't have a non stick air fryer, you might want to spray it with some neutral oil before cooking to keep the pineapple from sticking to the bottom of it.
🥗 Serving suggestions
Air fryer pineapple is a versatile dish. I love to enjoy it as a snack, but here are some other great ways to serve this fantastic treat:
As dessert: Try serving the pineapple slices with a sweet dessert sauce, custard or ice cream as a delicious dessert.
As a side dish: Enjoy air fried pineapple as a side dish with grilled meat, gammon, or other entrees.
In salads: Pineapple gives salads a tasty, fruity component.
📖 Variations
Here are some variations of this dish that I really like:
Vegan: Use agave syrup or date syrup instead of honey to make vegan grilled pineapple.
Chocolate covered: Dip the grilled pineapple slices in melted chocolate. Leave them to rest until the chocolate has solidified on the fruit, then enjoy this extra sweet treat.
Spicy: Add some chili flakes or chili powder to the pineapples before adding them to the air fryer for a spicy version. Highly recommended!
🍲 Leftovers
Store leftover air fryer pineapple in a refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can serve it cold, or reheat the slices quickly in an air fryer or microwave before serving.
You can also freeze the pineapple, but keep in mind that it tends to be quite watery and mushy after thawing. Frozen grilled pineapple can be used in sauces, smoothies or other pureed dishes.
