Ingredients

  • 4 gammon steaks
  • black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Heat up some oil or butter in a cast iron skillet or grill pan on medium to high heat. Place the gammon steak in the skillet, and coat with ground black pepper on either side. You don’t have to add any salt to gammon, as it’s already quite salty.
  • Cook for about 3 minutes on each side, or until the meat looks quite cooked. If you’re not sure how to cook gammon steaks, you’re waiting for the meat to be white with some slight browning on the edges, as opposed to red or pink raw meat.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overcook the steaks. They don’t take very long to cook through!
  • If you think gammon is too salty you can soak the steaks in water for a few hours. This will reduce the salt content and make the meat easier to eat.
  • Cooking the steaks in a grill pan will give them nice little stripes which look really cool.
  • Leftover cooked gammon steaks can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 2 days.
