Gnocchi Bolognese

This 10-minute gnocchi bolognese recipe is perfect as a quick and delicious weeknight dinner. Ground beef and gnocchi are cooked together in a flavorful homemade tomato sauce to create a filling meal that the kids will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound gnocchi
  • 1 (15 oz) can canned diced tomatoes
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
  • 1 onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Cook the gnocchi according to the package instructions. Some gnocchi must be boiled on the stove top for a few minutes, and other brands can be pan fried in a skillet or frying pan.

  • Heat up olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat, and add ground beef and diced onion. Sauté while breaking up the beef until the meat is browned.

  • Then, add finely grated or diced garlic, tomato paste and seasoning, and sauté for another minute.
    1 tablespoons tomato paste, 3 garlic cloves, ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning, ¼ teaspoon pepper, ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Peel and grate the carrot. Add it to the skillet, along with canned diced tomatoes. Stir to combine the ingredients evenly, and leave the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes.

  • Combine cooked and drained gnocchi and bolognese sauce, and serve topped with Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in a refrigerator for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet or microwave, and serve them warm.
  • Add more grated or finely chopped vegetables if you like, such as mushrooms, zucchini, cabbage or broccoli. 
  • Replace the ground beef with ground turkey, pork, chicken or a vegetarian alternative if you prefer.
