- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 cups tomato sauce (UK: tomato passata)
- 2 carrots
- 1 celery stick
- 1 onion
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Warm up the olive oil in a skillet on medium heat. Add the ground beef, and cook until the beef has browned completely. Then, transfer the beef to the slow cooker.
Add finely diced celery, carrots, onion and garlic to the skillet, and sauté for a few minutes until the onion is soft and translucent. Move the vegetables to the slow cooker.
Finally, add the tomato paste, tomato sauce and seasoning to your slow cooker.
Give everything a stir, and cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours, or LOW for 6-8 hours.
Serve the bolognese over boiled pasta.
- Store the leftover bolognese in a refrigerator for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 6 months.
- Hidden vegetables: To hide the veggies in the sauce, you can puree diced carrots, celery and onions in a food processor or blender before adding them to the slow cooker. The bolognese will then get the same nice flavor, without any chunks of veg mixed in.
