Ingredients

  • 1 turkey drumstick
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon ras el hanout

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180 C / 170 C fan oven / 355 F.
  • Place the drumstick on a baking tray or in a roasting tin. Rub the butter all over the drumstick. It can be hard to spread, so leave some chunks of butter on top if needed. Sprinkle the seasoning all over the turkey, and place it in the oven.
  • The exact baking time required will depend on the weight of your turkey drumstick. Add 20 minutes of cooking time per kg, plus an additional 70 minutes.
Halfway through the cooking time, use a spoon or turkey baster to soak up all the juice from the baking tray, and pour this over the turkey. This prevents it from drying out.
Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the turkey has cooked through. Inserted into the thickest part of the turkey, the thermometer should show a temperature of at least 165 F / 74 C before it’s ready to eat.

Notes

  • Use any type of Moroccan seasoning. These are often sold as “Moroccan seasoning blend”, or ras el hanout. You can also make your own!
  • If Moroccan seasoning is not your thing, try any other spice rub. I think peri peri seasoning or Italian seasoning would be great. For a simple version, you can just use salt and pepper instead.

Storing leftovers

Leftover roasted turkey can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months.
I like to shred the leftover meat, and use it in salads, soups or casseroles the following days.
Is this recipe allergy friendly? – Moroccan roasted turkey drumstick is gluten free, soy free, nut free and egg free. You can easily make it dairy free as well if you make sure to use a dairy free butter alternative.
