Roasted Hazelnuts

Roasted hazelnuts are excellent as a snack, and a key ingredient in many delicious dishes. It’s easy to love the mild nutty flavor, and roasting hazelnuts is probably easier than you’d think.

  • 2 cups hazelnuts

Instructions

  • This recipe requires hazelnuts with shells removed. If your hazelnuts have a hard shell, you will have to remove them using a nut cracker.
  • Place the hazelnuts on a baking pan. Make sure to spread them out, and not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Preheat your oven to 390 °F / 200 °C / 190 °C fan oven.
  • Roast the hazelnuts in your oven for approximately 20 minutes. Turn them halfway through cooking to ensure that they roast evenly.
  • Keep an eye on the nuts, as they can burn quite easily. Remove the hazelnuts from the oven, and allow them to cool down. The skins on the nuts will not be really flaky. Rub them with your hands for the lose skins to come off, and discard these.
  • Place the roasted nuts in a container for storage, or use them in your favorite recipe.

Notes

  • Eating nuts with peeling skins is not nice. Make sure to remove all lose skins before you serve or store the roasted hazelnuts.
  • Keep an eye on the nuts, as they can go from roasted to burned very quickly.
  • If any nuts look or feel burned after roasting, you can easily remove these before transfering the nuts into a container.
  • Roasted hazelnuts can be stored in your pantry in an airtight container for up to 6 months. They can also be frozen for up to 1 year. Keep in mind that frozen nuts should be thawed and drained before use.
