Ingredients

Instructions

  • Slice the pickles in halves or quarters lengthwise. This makes them look kinda like pickle fries!
  • Whisk the egg together in a bowl. Add the flour to a second bowl, and breadcrumbs to a third. Then, get ready to coat the pickles in breading one by one.
  • First, coat the pickle in flour. Then, add it to the whisked egg, and coat it completely. Finally, add it to the breadcrumbs and try to coat it as much as possible. Repeat with all the pickles until they are competely coated.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 200°C/395°F. Add the pickles in a single layer, and be careful to leave some space between each pickle fry. If your air fryer is small, you might have to do the cooking process in batches.
  • Air fry for 3-4 minutes, then flip and fry on the other side until the breading is golden and crunchy, about 3-5 minutes.

Notes

Is this recipe allergy friendly? – Always consult the nutrition label of the ingredient you use to double check that they are safe for your dietary requirements. This recipe is generally dairy free, nut free and soy free.
Which breadcrumbs should I use? – I like to use panko breadcrumbs, but fine breadcrumbs or golden breadcrumbs can be used as well.
Can I use any other pickles than pickled cucumbers? – Absolutely. You can add breading and air fry any pickled vegetable!

Leftovers

Leftover breaded pickles can be stored in an airtight container for up to a day. The breading tends to soften over time, so I highly recommend enjoying these immediately after preparing them.

Seasoning

Although these pickles are amazing served as is, you can also add any seasoning you like. Spices and herbs and be added to the flour before you coat the pickles. Try any of these flavor combinations:
  • Garlic powder + paprika powder
  • Dry mustard + onion powder
  • Peri peri seasoning blend
  • White cheddar powder

Top tips

Here’s my best tips to get these air fried pickles PERFECT:
  • Your air fryer might fry the pickles in more or less time than suggested. Make sure to check them after a few minutes. They are done as soon as the breadcrumbs are crispy and golden.
  • Make sure to serve them with a good dip. The dip is half the dish! Use one you like, such as honey mustard, ranch, BBQ sauce or sweet chili sauce.
